The Maniacal Machinations of the Republican Establishment
The Republican establishment is growing more and more nervous by the day because Donald Trump continues to lead in every poll. Trump’s campaign was supposed to be dead months ago, but he is alive because his supporters soundly reject the Republican establishment and their cohorts in the media.
The establishment is desperate to tank Trump, but nothing they have attempted has worked. The unprincipled establishment has called Trump a fascist and compared him to Hitler and Mussolini, but the comparisons ring hollow to his supporters. The mental midgets in the media have tried to shame Trump and his supporters by using their customary labels — racist, bigot, xenophobe — but they are no longer effective due to overuse.
The establishment is desperate for a solution for their Trump quandary. It appears as if the establishment is working on a strategy to take down Trump at the Republican National Convention (RNC). The Washington Post reported that members of the Republican establishment “met near the Capitol for a dinner held by Republican Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, and the prospect of Trump nearing next year’s nominating convention in Cleveland with a significant number of delegates dominated the discussion.” It appears the establishment is no longer counting on the Trump campaign to die of natural causes.
During the dinner, the self-proclaimed owners of the Republican Party floated the idea of a floor fight at the convention. According to The Washington Post, Priebus and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) listened intently as the other megalomaniacs laid out their vision of a floor fight that would allow “the GOP’s mainstream wing to coalesce around an alternative [candidate].” Many delegates at the convention are obligated to support the candidate they supported in the primaries and at the state conventions leading up to the convention, but only on the first ballot. If there is no winner on the first ballot, the aforementioned obligation is lifted, and the delegates can choose any candidate on subsequent ballots. The establishment’s plan is to manipulate the first ballot and organize support for an establishment candidate to gain the nomination on the second ballot.
The establishment and its media arm have frantically been trying to bring down Trump, but nothing phases him, and the GOP base is not listening to them. Pat Buchanan summed up the GOP base’s response to the maniacal machinations of the establishment nicely.
“Who are you to tell us whom we may nominate? You are not friends. You are not going to vote for us. And the names you call Trump — bigot, racist, xenophobe, sexist — are the names you call us, nothing but cuss words that a corrupt establishment uses on those it most detests.”
What the establishment doesn’t understand is that the more they attack the insurgent candidates — Trump, Cruz, Carson — the more resolute their supporters become. The establishment will do anything to maintain its power, including blowing up the RNC to create a chaotic situation they can exploit. The establishment along with their comrades in the Democrat Party have created a system based on cronyism and corruption that they are not going to give up easily.
